Begin at the Beginning…

`Begin at the beginning,’ the King said gravely, `and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’

-Alice in Wonderland, Chapter XII

The first part of the Story Time Sampler is Alice in Wonderland. And all 12 frames. And the banner at the top. I had big plans of getting all that done by the end of the month. Let’s just say that was a very optimistic goal.

Three days worth of craft time and all I had to show for it was less than two frames.

This is taking me longer than I thought it would. It’s much finer work than anything else I’ve worked on. The mottled grey fabric, while beautiful, its tough on the eyes. And those amazing ornate frames and detailed pictures simply take a long time.

Then it hit me.

This is a year long project. It’s not a race.  There’s no prize for finishing faster. It’s supposed to be enjoyable. Once I relaxed my attitude I was actually able to make some progress.

I’m still going to try and finish the Alice frame before January 31 when the next part is released, but it’s not a big deal if I don’t.

Your work is beautiful! I could see how the aida could be tricky, what is the count of the cloth? I’ve been seeing quite a few people who are doing this pattern, and I am half tempted to take it up. I just wonder if it won’t be too much with all the other stitches I want to make this year…
